Taylor Swift's blockbuster new album RED has debuted atop the Canadian Nielsen SoundScan album chart, with a staggering 92,580 copies sold in Canada in its first week of release. It is the best one week sales total for any release since Michael Buble's "Christmas" moved 100,000 copies in December 2011 and the best sales week for a first week release since AC/DC's "Black Ice" sold 119,000 copies in October 2008. "Red" also lands the second best one week sales total for digital albums since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking digital releases, with 39,000 units sold. It only trails Mumford & Sons' "Babel" who accomplished the feat four weeks ago.
Five more new releases debut in the top ten on the Top Albums chart this week. "Good Kid M.A.A.D." (Universal), the major label debut from Kendrick Lamar, enters at No. 2 with 12,000 copies sold. It has already tripled the total sales of his debut album, 2011's "Section 80."
