TALK IS CHEAP Bad Boy's Cassie lets her music speak for itself. One glance at R&B starlet Cassie and you can't deny her breathtaking looks, along with her warm, radiant smile. Aside from renovating the riveting half-shaved hair trend, the former print ad and catalog model has kept jaws dropping by popping up on countless red carpets and appearing in some of the hottest videos: alongside Chris Brown in "Crawl," acting as Wiz Khalifa's love interest in "Roll Up," resurfacing for Machine Gun Kelly's track "Warning Shot," and even playing with androgyny in the provocative Nicki Minaj video "Boys." But while she's stayed busy on the professional side, it's her personal life that always seems to get the major attention. Speculation about her relationship with a certain high-profile Bad Boy has kept her a major topic at times, but Cassie chooses to stay mum about who she cuddles with nightly. Now Cassie has revamped her entire style and is finally ready to give the world a glimpse into her enigmatic persona, of which we've seen so little. Geared up to release a mixtape before dropping her long-awaited second album, Cassie describes her new project as "sampling everything from trap beats to '90s records." Her lead electro-house single, "King of Hearts," showcases the fashionbly sensuous side of Cassie as she dances to her own tune in a visually enticing video. "I've learned that it's okay to make mistakes," says the singer, who recently resituated her deal at Bad Boy/Interscope. "There is ALWAYS room for growth and change. I've learned to speak up creatively." Based on her new street-banger "Balcony," produced by Rico Love, Cassie is indeed all grown up. The track features Young Jeezy and a sultry-sounding Cassie sharing her experiences with voyeurism on a balcony in New York City. "I've been working on my mixtape and album simultaneously for the past year. The mixtape is called RockaByeBaby. I feel that it's a level of music that I haven't been able to explore as an artist yet. It's a tougher side of my personality." Although she's been cocooned away, recording 100-plus songs to complete her best work to date, the self-proclaimed Virgo perfectionist feels now the time is right. "I feel confident now that it sounds its best and that people will really appreciate it. I am still currently working on my album, which is yet to be titled. It marries the world of the mixtape with pop radio music. I'm very proud of both projects and how my sound has evolved." Where music is concerned, Cassie is taking risks these days. "My music is so much more personal to me now. Everything I do reflects that. The music is coming naturally, the more I grow personally." Still, when it comes to her private life, Cassie is leaving that part a mystery–though one can't help but notice the public Twitter exchanges between Cassie and her mentor Diddy (who tweet pictures of one another with endearing captions), don't expect her to divulge anyone's name. "I love to stay in. I go out when it's a group of friends, but I love to cuddle up in bed, drink wine, eat cheese and crackers, watch movies, and just talk." |
