Discussion: Is the female pop industry too competitive? Nov 5th 2012, 00:36 This is interesting to discuss. Anyone can have a smash hit and be unknown too (i.e. I Kissed A Girl, Call Me Maybe) but Katy Perry had to take a couple years to get lasting power, and it will be the same for Carly. Carly's album sales are struggling. However, if an unknown male with the swag image gets a smash, he immediately has staying power. Is this fair? Discuss.
