British dubstep queen Katy B has vowed to grow up on her new album, which is inspired by her leaving home and fending for herself.

The 23-year-old lived at home in London while touring her debut disc On A Mission, but recently bought a new pad near her parents.

She says: “Standing on my own two feet is inspiring new lyrics for the album, due out early next year.

Katy, who plays Reading and Leeds Festivals this weekend, told me: “I’m making the transition from being a girl into womanhood and finding out what my responsibilities are.

“It’s the first time I’ve lived in the real world with bills to pay, and that’s coming across in what I’m writing.”

Don’t be surprised if Katy goes from throbbing bass to pizza base with the new tunes either.

She explained: “I love being at home now, improving my cooking.

“I’ve got a really bad memory, so my first attempts were a disaster – I’d forget what ingredients to put in.

“But I do a lasagne that’s a crowd-pleaser, and a good lemon drizzle cake, which I take to my mum’s for the Sunday roast to fatten the family up.”

Katy also got family brownie points by inviting her brother James, a tennis coach, as her guest to the Olympics.

She was given tickets from Coca-Cola after recording their official Games tune Anywhere In The World with Mark Ronson, 36.
