Quote:

Ellie Goulding tops Billboard's Nielsen BDS-based Mainstream Top 40 chart, as "Lights" rises 2-1 in its 23rd week. With the coronation, the song matches P!nk's "U + Ur Hand" (23 weeks, 2006-07) for the longest climb to the summit by a woman in the chart's almost-20-year history. Among all No. 1s, only Cee Lo Green's "F**k You! (Forget You)" (25 weeks, 2010-11) has logged a lengthier rise to the top.
"Lights" continues the impressive run of success for rookie acts this year on Mainstream Top 40, where Goulding is the fifth lead artist to reign with a first entry. Previously in 2012, the Wanted ("Glad You Came"), fun. ("We Are Young"), Gotye ("Somebody That I Used to Know") and Carly Rae Jepsen ("Call Me Maybe") ruled on their first tries. Last year, just one artist crowned Mainstream Top 40 in a first visit: Adele, with "Rolling in the Deep."
